Fall is around the corner, and with it comes the excitement of outdoor climbing in the crisp autumn air. Inner Peaks is offering multiple classes to help get you on the road to your outdoor dreams. From a multi-day top rope anchors class to indoor knots and rappelling clinics, we can help get you the skills you need to have a positive outdoor climbing experience.
Knots for Climbers: Knots are essential to climbing. They connect us to ropes, help us setup camp, and keep bouldering pads tied to the tops of cars packed full of climbers. This mini-clinic is a great way to learn new knots or to brush up on ones you have not used in a while. In the clinic, we will cover a streamlined list of knots, hitches, and bends that every climber needs to know!
Date: September 9, 6:30-8:30 PM
Trad Gear 1: In this mini-clinic, you will learn the basic workings of a variety of types of traditional lead climbing protection, and have plenty of time to practice using the information you have learned under the guidance of our experienced instructors.
Date: September 11, 6:30-8:30
OUTER PEAKS Basic and advanced Top Rope Anchors:
Learn the basics of outdoor climbing at Crowder’s Mountain. You will learn how to construct a top rope and rappel anchor form our AMGA trained guide. You will learn basic anchor skills that include knots, equipment, vector force evaluation, redundancy and equalization, all skills that are useful for top roping and continue through the most advanced and technical forms of climbing.
Prerequisite: Inner Peaks Top Rope Belay Certification; Age 16 or older
Dates: September 14-15, full days
Cost: Member is $180, Non-Member is $225
Rappelling: Rappelling is an essential part of outdoor climbing, but unfortunately it is rarely practiced or taught in the gym. We are here to change that, with our Rappelling Mini-Clinic! This 2 hour course will cover setup and use of several different belay devices, as well as skills necessary to back up your rappel. We will wrap up the course with some practice rappelling off of the back top-out boulder.
Date: September 23, 6:30-8:30
Trad Gear 2: Take another step down the trail that leads to long, awesome outdoor routes with this Inner Peaks mini-clinic! In this class, we will dive deeper into examining traditional gear by highlighting some key skills that will make your time outside more efficient and safe. Skills discussed include complex gear placements, directional placements, and effective gear racking techniques.
Date: September 28, 6:30-8:30
In October, keep your eyes open for climbing technique classes and a members-only route setting clinic.
